Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit group with the belief that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe, and afordable place to live. We work with people in need, regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.
Each Habitat homeowner contributes to the building of their own house which leads to a strong pride in their home. Habitat homeowners also help to build the house of a neighbors, improving community relations.
RIT Habitat participates with nationally recognized affiliates to help achieve the Habitat international mission. We volunteer at local Habitat build sites every Saturday. RIT Habitat sends ~30 students to participate in Alternative Spring Break programs. While volunteering is important, we also recognize that without money, building can’t be done. Because of this, we host many different fundraising activities throughout the year.
Engineers for a Sustainable World
Welcomes anyone interested in socially and environmentally conscious development. ESW works to mobilize engineers to address the unique challenges of developing communities and to promote global sustainability. They build social capital by creating multi-sector partnerships and increasing local ownership of community development programs. ESW hopes to educate a generation of engineers to have greater understanding of global issues and the ways technology can be employed for human progress. Through outreach, service, and international goodwill, ESW promotes a positive image of engineering.
